For the past few years, a pigeon named Herman has been living at an animal shelter. The bird was found near a car dealership. Employees noticed that the pigeon had been sitting almost motionless for several days.
Volunteers took Herman to the shelter, where a veterinarian examined him and prescribed treatment.
However, Herman never regained the ability to fly.
- The doctors believe this could be due to either an injury or a virus.
- Volunteers often take the pigeon outside so he can enjoy the fresh air.
A puppy named Lundy has not been at the shelter for long, just a couple of months. He was brought to the shelter at four weeks old, weighing less than 150 grams. Within two weeks under the care of volunteers, he gained another 100 grams.
The breeder who had Lundy gave him up upon discovering that the puppy was sick and required special care.
According to the founder of the animal aid fund, Lundy was born with immobile hind legs and will likely need a wheelchair to move around in the future. The volunteers are hopeful they can find Lundy a home.
Lundy and Herman met at the shelter. One of the volunteers was caring for the puppy while Herman sat nearby. The volunteer decided to place the puppy next to the pigeon to see how the pair would react.
As soon as the animals were close, they immediately started to examine each other with interest and then began moving closer.
Thus began an unusual friendship that brings joy to both the puppy and the bird. They are often seen together, cuddling or playing with one another.
